#5 asakusa

Next on our favorite list is Asakusa.  We visited here towards the end of my brother’s trip.  We were exhausted from all of the sightseeing we had already done, but this did not disappoint hence why it made it as one of our favorites.

First up on our list was the Senso-ji temple which is an ancient Buddhist temple.  It is Tokyo’s oldest and one of its most significant temples.  The first temple was built on the site in 645.

After the temple we headed to the Asahi Beer Tower, which is one of the buildings of the Asahi Breweries headquarters, to have a drink in the Sky Room.

The Asahi beer tower resembles a gigantic mug of foamy beer, and the Asahi super dry beer hall representing a torch with a golden flame on top.  The beer hall was designed by the famous French designer Philippe Starck  and the golden flame on top of the hall is one of his trademarks motifs.

The view from the 22nd floor of the Sky Room is amazing.  There is not only a great view of Tokyo, but also of the Tokyo Sky Tree.

The tower is 634 meters high, and when it is completed it will be the tallest free-standing tower in the world. It is going to be opened in the spring 2012.

We finished our night at the Sushi go-round restaurant, luckily the restaurant has somewhat of an English menu (although anything I asked for they didn’t have).

The restaurant consists of a large round counter with stools.  The sushi is brought around by a conveyor belt and you are able to pick off of it whatever you want.

My brother was more experimental where as I stuck with the stuff I knew. The sushi, green tea, and sake were all delicious!
